Trip to Deloraine

Last weekend my Mom and I head out to Deloraine, Manitoba to drop off, and pick up, some Christmas gifts from my aunt and uncle. On the way out we stopped at Morris MCC Thrift Store where we found a polaroid camera with film still in it! My Mom bought it, another polaroid camera that was much older and a record player for my Christmas present! I can’t wait for Christmas to be able to shoot polaroids and listen to my record player! :)

We made time to visit my Grandma who also lives in Deloraine and I don’t see enough. She is 93 and I was lucky enough to shoot a few portraits of her for my projects and personal photos. I of course shot photos the whole way there and back. Here are some photos from our journey:

The Fyxx Christmas Party

One of my best friends, Lisa, works at The Fyxx on Albert Street. She invited me to her Christmas party the weekend before last, which I was pleased to attend. (Thanks for bringing my Lisa. I had fun:)

A few random shots.

The Smiths

On Saturday afternoon I met up with Jeff and his three boys, Robert, William and Xavier at Assiniboine Park. We walked around for a while and the boys found many different places to stand, sit and climb on for pictures. I had a great time and all three of the boys were fantastic to photograph.

Also big thanks to Jaime for tagging along and helping out!

Grace

This past Sunday I took some portraits of a delightful and energetic little girl named Grace. We met up at the Festival of Trees & Lights at Assiniboine Park, where Grace ran from tree to tree to look at all the Christmas ornaments. I enjoyed chasing Grace around trying to catch a shot of her radiant smile.

Here are a few photos from out shoot:

Colour Block

For Creative Imaging our project was to shoot four different colours isolated in four different shots, as well as one with a harmonious colour relationship and one with complimentary colours. I enjoyed this project and would love to experiment with these kinds of shots in the future.

My first color is red. I use a red wooden figure I have for drawing. I did a close crop concentrating on the color and texture. I feel the red in this image makes it very warm, maybe even hot looking, strong and dominant compared to the other colors.

My second colour is orange. The light is very dramatic which shows lots of tones of orange from a solid coloured juice jug. The image feels extremely warm to me and reminds me of orange juice, also of a brilliant sunset when all the clouds turn orange and pink.

Third is the colour yellow, which I found a bright yellow vase at my Aunts and knew it was going to replace a picture I had already taken for yellow. I did a close up abstract shot of the vase and am very happy with the image. We were taught in class that yellow is symbolic of joy, happiness and richness and I agree and feel this image gives a strong feeling of joy. Yellow is so bright and cheerful.

My fourth colour was green. I shot a green wine bottle from a higher view looking down. I feel the colour in this image gives a feeling of calm, fresh and purity. I especially like the color of green in this bottle and how it shows darker to lighter depending on how transparent it is in areas.

For my harmonious colour relationship I did warm colour with pencil crayons. I love the colours of red, orange and yellow together, it always catches me eye. I feel they give a strong feeling of energy and warmth.

For complimentary colours I used tattoo inks and chose red and green. I feel complimentary colours are strange together but do work together if used appropriately, especially for something like logo design. The combo I did gives me a feeling of warmth and cool.

Colours definitely can set a mood or help express a feeling if intentional or not. If it's a cold lonely feeling blue or a warm cozy orange it effects how we respond to an image and how it makes us feel.

Photos With Jaime & Mel Last Sunday

Last Sunday Jaime, Mel and myself head out to take some photos at The Parish Church of St. Andrew, which was built between 1845 and 1849. I shot for one of my assignments and was very excited to try out my new 70-200mm f4 lens. Jaime shot with her Canon DSLR and Mel shot with a charming old Nikon film camera, for the first time, that she borrowed from a co-worker. I am excited to see how Mel's roll turns out!

Thanks for the company girls!

CI Field Trip 1

Today in Creative Imaging we had a field trip to the zoo! We were there from about 11:00 am till 2:00 pm. It was somewhat chilly out and cloudy. Cloudy days are my favorite time to shoot. I really enjoyed shooting at the zoo, with all the unique animals from all over the world. Winnipeg may not have one of the best zoos, but we do have a pretty good zoo, I think people in our city don't go enough. The zoo is especially good for the kids, to learn and actually see all the different kinds of animals.

It was good to shoot somewhere that wasn't all to familiar to me and did have a lot to look at. The only thing I wish could have been different would be me having a telephoto lens, especially all the animals I couldn't get close to. In the end, I am satisfied with a lot of the photos I ended up with.
